UPDATE: Large Indoor Marijuana Grow Discovered in Hiddenite Area

The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged Dustin Wayne Smith age 40 of 79 Prichard MHP Dr, Hiddenite on June 6, 2012.  Smith was charged with Manufacture of a Controlled Substance, Maintain a Dwelling for Controlled Substance and Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver a Controlled Substance.  The charges are the result of Sheriff Deputies receiving a crime stopper tip that smith was growing marijuana inside his residence located at 79 Prichard MHP Dr. 

Officers also had outstanding warrants on smith from Alexander and Iredell County for Fail to Appear for DWI and Drug offenses.  Deputies seized over 136 Marijuana Plants as a result of the search.  A large amount of paraphernalia was also seized that was used to manufacture the marijuana. The plants ranged from 2 inches tall to over 7 feet tall. 

Smith was placed under a $25,000.00 bond on the drug charges and $4500.00 on the Fail to appear charges.  A second grow operation was found at another residence near by the Smith residence.  At this location 34 Marijuana plants were seized.  No arrest has been made on that case yet and the investigation is continuing.  It is believed that the two grow operations are related.  Smith will have a court appearance on Monday June 11, 2012.
